A Family Road Trip From Java to Bali: Day 4 in Bali (Pandawa Beach, Joger, Tanah Lot)

21.07.2016. Our destination for today is Pandawa Beach, Joger, and Tanah Lot. We left from our hostel at 7am. We had breakfast first nearby the hostel. Then, heading to Pandawa Beach.

Pandawa Beach is located in Kutuh Village, South Kuta District, Badung Regency. It is around 3 km from the famous Nusa Dua area and Uluwatu Temple. In the past, this beach was hidden behind hill so it called Secret Beach. Secret Beach actually had known well by some tourists. The access to this place is now better, so it’s convenient for any vehicles to reach there. When entering the beach area, we will amazed by beautiful panorama of high cliff, flanking the road along 1.5 km. The road is purposively built through limestone hills in Kutuh Village, similar with the hills in GWK. Approaching the beach, these limestone hills are holed and carved artistically. In these holes, statues of Pandawa characters from Mahabaratha story are placed, such as Yudhistira / Dharmawangsa, Bima, Arjuna, Nakula, and Sahadewa. Therefore, this beach is called Pandawa Beach.

I personally love this beach! It’s so quite and serene. The sand is so white and clean. It’s different with any beaches in Bali. This beach is not so crowded too. That is why this beach is clean and no garbage. Sounds perfect right? 😉

After relaxing a bit in Pandawa Beach, we’re heading to Joger to buy souvenirs. Souvenirs again?! Yes, yesterday we bought some souvenirs in Krisna and now in Joger. What’s difference? The quality, of course. I love to buy T-shirts, pants, and slippers in Joger. I have Joger’s T-shirt and slippers before, and it can be used for a few years. It’s not only has good quality, but also has unique goods. If you’re looking for unique souvenirs and good quality, JOGER is the best. It is located nearby Ngurah Rai Airport too.

We arrived at Tanah Lot at 3.30pm. It’s so hot at that time in Tanah Lot. My face turned into red, just like a crab. LOL

Tanah Lot, Bali

According to Wikipedia, Tanah Lot is a rock formation off the Indonesian island of Bali. It is home to the pilgrimage temple Pura Tanah Lot (literally “Tanah Lot temple”), a popular tourist and cultural icon for photography. Tanah Lot means “Land Sea” in the Balinese language. Located in Tabanan, about 20 kilometres (12 mi) from Denpasar, the temple sits on a large offshore rock which has been shaped continuously over the years by the ocean tide.

In Tanah Lot, you can find some snakes. Holy snake is one of legend in Tanah Lot Temple. According the information from Tanah Lot Temple Priest, that holy snakes only can find in Tanah Lot Area. Believe or not, from mythology analizing prove that snake’s nest just finded in Tanah Lot Area not in other place. People or villager said that sea snakes (holy snakes) in Tanah Lot Temple are not danger. Because until today there are no victim bite by holy snakes. Right now the visitor could see holy snakes in Tanah Lot. It is located in front (North) of Tanah Lot Temple. The place like caved, and you must entered the caved to see and find them. But before entered the caved, you will meet the guard and you just ask them to showing the snakes take place. After you see the holy snakes, you can touch them and required some bless from guard from happiness and faithfully.

Tanah Lot is a must-visit if you go to Bali. It’s one of the iconic of Bali island. When I was there, it’s really crowded of foreign tourists. I also recognized so many Chinese tourists come to visit Tanah Lot (by hearing their language). Because of it, the local people can also speak a little bit of Mandarin. And even, there are some shops with Chinese character on it.

If you go to Tanah Lot, you should bring your sunglasses or hat. I still remember it was 4.30pm, but it’s still bright, sunny, and hot. Fortunately, there are some restaurant that sell ice cream. Aaahh, Thank you ice cream!! 😀
